GIRLS AND “BOYS” SHOULD DO PUSH-UPS FROM THE KNEES

FOR PARENTS OF YOUTH ATHLETES ::

Why are girls asked to do push-ups from their knees? The truth is…boys should start there too. I never see young boys do them correctly. Most touch their hips down but barely bend their elbows. Their core is too weak also.
Starting from the knees helps kids develop the core one step at a time. The push-up is a great exercise but kids need to progress to the standard way if they’re to get the most out of them. When kids can do them with an “iron board” core, then it’s time to push the limits. Is your kid there yet?

Gymbag Wisdom-Achieving Your Potential…

Fun Is Energizing

When it isn’t fun anymore it’s time to hang up the cleats. Only when you play for the fun of it will you experience more success. A superstar athlete was once asked to share his secret of his continuing success. He replied that he never went to work, he just went to play. Fun is energizing — it is the driving force that keeps you coming back. Fun links you to your higher power. When you take the fun out of sports you lose the force.
